Agnes Gertrude Brown, age 85, of Oxford, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Warren Haven Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Oxford, NJ.
Agnes was born on June 18, 1940, in High Bridge, NJ, to the late James and Agnes (Delhagen) Hoffman. She spent her childhood in Califon, NJ, and was a longtime resident of Lebanon Township, NJ, before moving to Hampton, NJ, in 1993. She has resided at Warren Haven in Oxford, NJ since 2025.
Agnes was the loving wife of the late Albert F. Brown. The two celebrated 43 years of marriage before Albert passed in 2007.
Agnes worked as an assembly worker for Exact Level & Tool Manufacturing Company, and Co OperativeIndustries. Later, she worked for Ames in Washington, NJ in the jewelry department.
Agnes was a previous member of Califon United Methodist Church in Califon, NJ. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Military Order of the Purple Heart; she was very proud of her brothers’ military service.
Agnes loved people, especially her family and her dog Sassy. Anyone that met her, loved her. She also enjoyed crocheting, was extremely talented and made beautiful things. She loved Bingo and going to the casinos.
Agnes is survived by her two loving daughters, Kelly Back and her husband, Kenneth, of Oxford, NJ, and Susan Merrill of Oxford, NJ. Six grandchildren: Prudence Hoffman; Pauline Dickey and her husband, Russell; Lester Dennis; Brandon Stevens and her husband, Michael; Corey Back and his wife, Desirae; Kyle Back and his soon to be wife, Amanda. Eleven great-grandchildren: Gabrielle, Angeleana, Owen, Skylar, Anaya, Ines, Isla, Ezra, Zara, Julia, and one expected great-grandchild. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Agnes is predeceased by her daughter, Barbara J. Brown Back Johnson. Three son-in-laws: Lester Dennis, Norman Merrill, Theodore Back. Six siblings: James Hoffman, Elizabeth Schuyler, Robert Hoffman, Kenneth Hoffman, Daniel Hoffman, and Dorothy Hoffman.
Visitation will take place on Monday August 11, 2025from 9am to 11am. Funeral service will follow at 11am. All at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Interment will take place at Lower Valley Cemetery in Califon, NJ.
