Alberta “Bertie” Lacey, age 93 of High Bridge NJ passed on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at Courtyard Luxury Senior Living in Clinton NJ
Born on December 22, 1932 to Charles E Ayers, Sr and Lillian Fedor Ayers in Belvidere NJ. Bertie was also the Step-Daughter of Harmon H Harrison.
She was a member of the Class of 1952 of Phillipsburg High School.
She was married to the love of her life, Joseph M Lacey Sr for 74 years and served beside him and supported him in his role of Chief of Police in High Bridge, NJ. She also worked at Roselle Savings and Loan in High Bridge NJ for 25 years-retiring as Branch Manager.
She was a member of the former Shepherd of the Valley Church (Assembly of God) in Milford NJ. While a member, she served as a Sunday School Superintendent, a member of the Women’s Ministry, Sunshine Secretary, Choir Member and Church Greeter.
She is survived by two sons Richard and his wife Delores and Garry and his wife Lisa, one daughter Connie Ihling and her husband Chuck and a daughter in law Diane Lacey. She was Grammy to 8 grandchildren and Gigi to 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her oldest son Joseph M Lacey Jr, her parents and step father, and brother Charles E Ayers Jr.
Calling hours will take place on Monday, July 27, 2026 from 10am-12pm with funeral service at 12pm at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Phillipsburg, NJ.
