Alta Mae Waldau, age 88, long-time New York City resident, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Twp, NJ.
She was born on February 14, 1932 in Cumberland County, Illinois. She spent her childhood, and early adulthood in Illinois, living in Casey, Charleston, and Vandalia. She earned her Bachelor Of Science in Education from Eastern Illinois State College (later Eastern Illinois University), then after moved to pursue career/familty goals in New York City. She resided in there, until April of 2019, when she moved-in with her son in Lebanon Twp, NJ.
She was the daughter of Van and Nora Buckley.
Her husband, Roy S Waldau, passed away in 2008, after 42 years of marriage. The couple met, while both were attending NYU, where Alta received her Masters Of Education.
When Alta moved to New York City, she taught at Colby Academy, a private girls school for several years, before transferring to the city's public school system.
Alta enjoyed singing, and playing piano. Years ago, she was a member of the historic Plymouth Church's choir in Brooklyn Heights; also with Sweet Adelines, and Collegiate Chorale music groups.
Being a teacher, Alta enjoyed two-month long summer vacations. These were spent in update NY, on
Big Moose Lake, with her family.
Surviving family include two children; Geoffrey Waldau and partner Desiree Charpentier of Washington,
DC, and Alan Waldau of Lebanon Twp, NJ. Two grandchildren; Griffin Waldau and Fleury Waldau.
Two great-grandchildren; Ysa and Ronin.
Predeceased, in addition to her husband, are two sons; Peter Waldau and Chris Waldau. She is also predeceased by one sister; Neva Chidester.
All services will be private. Arrangements by Naughright-Scarponi Funeral Home in High Bridge, NJ.
