Arthur G. Cathcart Sr.

Dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, 80

Arthur G Cathcart, Sr, age 80 of Milford, DE, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at The Country Rest Home in Greenwood, DE.  He was born on June 16, 1943, in Plainfield, NJ.  He was the son of the late George and Arline Cathcart.

Art was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Beatrice Blackford Cathcart, married November 2, 1962.

He began his working career in the mail room at Buffalo Tankand quickly worked his way up to the drafting team, as he worked evenings on his mechanical drafting degree.  He also worked as an estimator of pollution control hot boxes for most of his career at Belco Pollution Control in Parsippany, NJ, until they were acquired by Foster Wheeler.  He ended his career working as an estimator of stair railing projects for the iron works industry for large hotels and apartment buildings.  He worked up until mid 2023.

He was a past member of Middlesex Bible Chapel.

Art enjoyed working with wood, specifically building furniture or kitchen cabinets, working out in the yard, restoring the house he shared with his wife, and spending time with family and friends.  After getting his motorcycle license at the age of 61, he absolutely loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Survivors include three children: Arthur Cathcart Jr. and his wife Jennifer.  Tracey Cathcart and her partner Pat Freeman and Matthew Cathcart and his wife Katie.  Six grandchildren: Michael Cathcart and his fiancé Audra, Brandon Cathcart, BJ Freeman and his wife Ali, Kate Silverthorn and her husband Steve, Connor Cathcart and Reagan Cathcart.  One great grandchild: Shannon Freeman.  He is also survived by a sister Barbara Rothweiler and 3 brothers, Bill, Bruce and Ken.  Many sister and brother-in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 10am – 12 pm, with funeral service beginning at 11:30 am at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ.  Interment to follow at Somerville New Cemetery.
