Barry Reed Obituary

Barry A. Reed, 79, of Clinton Township, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on May 28, 2026, following a brief illness.

Born on November 30, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York, Barry spent his early years in Brooklyn and Staten Island before later living in Bernardsville and Tewksbury Township, New Jersey. He was the beloved son of the late David and Florence Brekke Reed.

Barry shared a beautiful marriage of 52 years with the love of his life, Alene E. Baxter Reed. Together they built a family filled with love, faith, laughter, and treasured memories.

As a young man, Barry had the privilege of serving as a volunteer at the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society headquarters in Brooklyn, New York, from 1964 to 1977. He often reflected fondly on those years, which remained some of his favorite memories and helped shape the strong faith and values that guided him throughout his life.

A successful business owner, Barry founded Reed Presentations in 1990 and took great pride in his work. Yet those who knew him best would say that his greatest accomplishments were not measured by business success, but by the love he showed to others and the example he set each day.

Barry was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and faithfully served in the Lebanon Congregation in Clinton, New Jersey. His love for Jehovah and for people was evident throughout his life. So committed was he to helping others learn about God’s promises that he learned Spanish to serve alongside a Spanish congregation in Bridgewater, New Jersey. His faith was not simply something he spoke about—Bible principles guided the way he lived, loved, and cared for those around him.

He was known for his kindness, generosity, strong work ethic, and willingness to help anyone in need. Barry enjoyed working outdoors on his property, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Above all else, he cherished his role as husband, father, and Pop-Pop. His family was his greatest joy, and he delighted in every opportunity to spend time with them.

Barry is survived by his devoted wife, Alene; his children, David Reed, Jonathan Reed and his wife Emily, Elizabeth Connell and her husband Nathan, and Lindsey Drakes and her husband Paul; and his beloved grandchildren, Brooke, Brynna, Landon, Paxton, Milo, and Sawyer. He is also survived by his sisters, Karen Larson, Jessica Kulas, and Lori Reed.

He was preceded in death by his cherished grandson, Levi Drakes, and his brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Reed.

Barry’s legacy lives on in the faith he shared, the love he gave, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness, encouragement, and unwavering devotion to Jehovah. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him, but they look forward with confidence to the fulfillment of Jehovah’s promise of a resurrection and the hope of seeing him again.

A memorial talk will be held at 2PM on June 20th at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 54 Pittstown Road, Annandale, New Jersey.  For those unable to attend in person, the service will also be available via Zoom.
