Bernice J. Winters

Bernice J. Winters, 94, of longtime resident of Lebanon Township, NJ passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Independence Manor in Flemington, NJ.

She was born on January 28, 1930 to the late Fred C. and Reta M. Robinson Burd in Milburn, NJ. Bernice spent most of her life in Califon, NJ before moving to Independence Manor in Flemington, NJ, where she resided for the last 7 years.

Bernice graduated from High Bridge High School, class of 1947.

She worked as a bank teller for Bank of America in Lebanon, NJ.

Bernice was the wife of the late Charles Winters, who passed away in 2002. They had celebrated 51 years of marriage together.

Memberships include Lower Valley Presbyterian Church in Califon, NJ, where she previously taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the Califon Ladies Auxiliary. 

In high school, Bernice enjoyed cheerleading. Later in life, she loved to garden and do puzzles. She also loved crocheting and making afghans. As a mom, she always gave to everyone else.

Bernice is survived by her four children; Gary Winters and his wife Loretta of Lebanon Township, NJ; Scott Winters of Daytona, FL; Bryan Winters of Lebanon Township, NJ; Pamela Smith and her husband Jeffrey of Lebanon Township, NJ. Eight grandchildren; David, Nicole, Brandon, Heather, Sean, Kristen, Michael, and Clinton. Seven great-grandchildren; Ryan, Elianna, Angie, Emmalyn, Sawyer, Gianni, Zachary, and Jonathan.

She is predeceased by her son Kevin Winters, who passed in 2008. She is also predeceased by two siblings; Carl R. Burd and Mary E. Bush and her great-granddaughter, Hope Noel.  

Visitation will take place on Tuesday July 30, 2024 from 10 am – 11 am with memorial service at 11 am at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Interment will be private.
