Betty Lindabury Kearney, age 96, lifetime resident of Hunterdon County, NJ passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Country Arch Care Center in Pittstown, NJ. She was the daughter of the late Emmett L. and Grace Bunn Lindabury.
She was born on July 27, 1928 on her father’s farm in Bissell, NJ, moving to Rockaway Road a few years later. She attended the one room Bissell School until high school. Betty spent her entire life in Hunterdon County, specifically Tewksbury Twp. for most of her younger years. She lived in Union Twp. since the mid 1980’s.
Betty was a graduate of Flemington High School, class of 1946. She remained active with the High School reunion committee for decades.
Early in her career, she worked for Prudential in Newark, NJ. Betty also worked in the Johnson & Johnson companies, both in New Brunswick and later at Ortho. She had an active career as a realtor that began with Congdon Associates in Whitehouse Station, NJ, moving to work with Carl Bayuk, and later withBerkshire Hathaway in Clinton, NJ. Her careerspanned multiple decades, and she retired at age 91.
Betty was always involved in her community. She was dedicated to working the election polls in Union Twp. for many years and was very active in local politics in Tewksbury Twp., NJ. She was also a member of the Tewksbury Twp. Historical Society. Betty began her community support as a young woman, when she danced with a musical revue group called Strike Twelve that played many events in Hunterdon County to raise money to build the Hunterdon Medical Center. The group was organized by the Hunterdon Council of Churches.
Betty also owned and operated a dress shop with her sister for years called ‘Outdoor Girl’ in Bernardsville. She had many fond memories of her time running the shop and all of the friendships she made with customers. She was also a partner in a business group called Olcott Square, which owned the Bernardsville Movie Theater, among other properties.
Memberships include the Cokesbury United Methodist Church where she currently was the oldest living member of the church. Joining in 1929, Betty frequently sang for services, and spent her lifetime as an active member of the church that her grandfather helped build in 1851. She was related to many local founding families.
Betty was an avid world traveler. She traveled extensively in her later years, visiting nearly every continent. She traveled around the country whenever she could. She sailed in the Caribbean islands and cruised to Alaska, and visited Cozumel. Betty especially enjoyed her trips to Indonesia(where she traveled the rim of a volcano and also attended local customary funeral services), Taiwan(a favorite trip) and Thailand, Burma, Europe, the Netherlands and Denmark, and the former country of Yugoslavia. She especially enjoyed talking about her trip to Egypt; touring the Pyramids, and sailing up the Nile to visit King Tut’s tomb and the Temple at Abu Simbel.
Survivors include four daughters; Linda P. Wolfson and her husband David L. of Wayne, NJ, Laurie P. Moshier and her husband Matthew V. of Allentown, PA, Kimberly Price of Clinton, NJ and Pamela J. Ross and her husband James L. of Suffolk, VA. Four grandchildren; Gabrielle Lynn Moshier, Andrea Rose Moshier and her husband Vincent Cimorelli Jr., Benjamin Thomas Wolfson, and Henry John Ross.
She is predeceased by two siblings; Frederick L. Lindabury and his wife June (Kelly) Lindabury, and Wilma L. Congdon and her husband Robert C. Congdon Sr.
Calling hours will take place on Sunday, June 29, 2025 from 2-5pm at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Funeral service will be Monday, June 30, 2025 at 11am at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 230 Cokesbury Road, Lebanon, NJ. Interment will follow at Cokesbury Cemetery. Refreshments will be served immediately following interment at the Westbury Room.
