Carol Sladek Potter, age 85, of Union Township, NJ passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Carol was born April 30, 1939 in Detroit, MI. She spent her childhood in Kokomo, Indiana, Hamilton, OH, and Lansing, MI and most of her adult life in Summit, NJ and Flemington, NJ. She resided in Union Township, NJ with her daughter for the past 7 years.
Carol was the daughter of the late Edward Sladek and Virginia (Williams) Sladek. She was a 1957 graduate of Lansing Eastern High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Michigan.
She spent her career writing and editing for the Washington Star and the Greensboro News, then went on to public relations and freelance medical writing and editing before retiring in her 70s. She was also a member of NJ Press Woman. She was always grateful for the friends and connections she made along the way, serving as a great support in her life.
Carol was an avid reader. She loved books, theater, crocheting, gardening, photo development, swimming and the NY Yankees. But most of all, she loved being a mom and grandmother. Her family brought her the most joy in her life. There wasn’t a sporting event, music concert, or school ceremony she missed. She will be remembered by her wonderful sense of humor, tenacious independence, and the unconditional love she had for her family and friends. Carol was simply the best!
Carol is survived by her three children; Sarah Potter-Kose and her husband Mehmet of Union Township, NJ, Rachael Christenson and her husband Tom of Clinton Township, NJ, and David Potter and his wife Sally of Piscataway, NJ. Four grandchildren; Samantha Kose, Hannah Kose, Emma Christenson and Kelly Christenson. Carol’s brother; Edward Sladek and two nephews; Brad Sladek and Jeff Sladek as well as her beloved cat, Zoey.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 11am-12pm with memorial service at 12pm at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Interment will take place in Michigan.
