Catherine Messina

Catherine Messina, age 86, of Tewksbury Twp., NJ passed away on Tuesday, February 22 2022, at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ.

She was born on October 5, 1935 in New York, NY.  She spent her childhood in New York before moving to Edison, NJ and later to Tewksbury Twp., NJ in 1967.

She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Angelina (Cahill) Mulvaney.

Her husband, Jack James Messina, passed away in 2011.

In the 1950’s Catherine’s career began at Met Life Ins. Co. and she went on to work as the Deputy Clerk in Tewksbury Twp. until her retirement.  After retirement, she worked for Medarex in Clinton, NJ.

Memberships include Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Annandale, NJ. 

Catherine enjoyed reading and gardening.  She also enjoyed sewing as she worked as a seamstress for many years in the early part of her career.  In recent years, she enjoyed going out to lunch with her sons.  She would frequent her favorite eating spots for lunch including the Califon General store, Frank’s Pizza and stops at Melick’s farm stand in Oldwick.  Most of all, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. 

Survivors include four sons: Steve Messina of Dublin, Ireland, John Messina and his wife Bonnie of Bangor, PA, Anthony Messina of Fairfax, VA and Chris Messina of Tewksbury Twp., NJ.  Two grandchildren; Nicholas Messina and Anthony Messina.  One brother; John Mulvaney.

Predeceased in addition to her husband include one sister: Eileen Trubia. 

Visitation will take place on Sunday February 27, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm.  Funeral Service will begin at 2:30 pm.  All at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Interment will be private.
