Charles E. Housel, age 94, of Clinton, NJ passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at home.
He was born on July 18, 1926 in Phillipsburg, NJ. He resided in Clinton for the past 66 years, moving from Lebanon, NJ.
He was the son of the late Robert S. and Elizabeth Snyder Housel.
He was the husband of Janice Betty Campbell Housel. The couple were blessed to celebrate 74 years of marriage.
Days after his 17th birthday, Charles enlisted with the US Navy where he served during World War II as Electricians’ Mate 2nd Class. He was stationed in the Philippines on a PT Boat. He was reactivated in 1948 and again in 1951, serving during the Korean War. While he started out in PT Boats and finished in 1951 on the USS WASP (Aircraft carrier).
Charles was a lifelong Lineman. He worked for NJ Telephone Co. in Flemington, NJ and Annandale, NJ for 42 years until his retirement in 1989.
Memberships include Clinton United Methodist Church in Clinton, NJ where he was a member for 74 years. He was also Past Master of Host Lodge #6, a member of Tall Cedars, member of the Order of the Eastern Star #166 Stewart Chapter and Life Member and Past Chief of Clinton Fire Department. He was also a member of PT Boats Inc. in Germantown, TN.
Survivors in addition to his loving wife include one son; Charles Terry Housel and his wife Denise of Perry, GA. One daughter; Sherry Milisivana of Clinton, NJ. Two grandchildren; Michael Milisivana of Lawrenceville, NJ and Tammara Shipes and her husband Erik of Perry, GA. Three great-grandchildren; Jack, Nicholas and Clara. He is also survived by his brother-in-law; Barry Campbell of Milford, NJ and sister-in-law; Eleanor Campbell of FL. Several nieces and nephews including Libby McDede of NC.
Predeceased by his son-in-law; Paul Milisivana who passed away in 1995. Also predeceased by two sisters; Lelia Hoy and Betty Torgerson.
He was a great husband and will be dearly missed.
Calling hours will take place on Friday, May 21, 2021 from 2-4pm. Funeral will immediately follow at 4pm beginning with Masonic and Eastern Star Services and will be concluded with US Navy Military Honors. All at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Interment will be private.
