Constance “Connie” Sladicka, age 85, of Clinton Township, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 12, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Connie was born on August 31, 1940, in Forest City, Pennsylvania, to the late Michael and Constance (Makauskas) Scepita. She spent her early years in Pennsylvania before settling in Clinton Township, where she made her home for the past 50 years.
She was the devoted wife of John J. Sladicka, PhD. Married in 1968, Connie and John shared 57 years of marriage marked by love, partnership, and family.
A longtime and faithful member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Annandale, New Jersey, Connie’s faith was an important part of her life.
Connie had a deep passion for nursing and dedicated her career to caring for others. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing and was hired immediately upon graduation at St. Joseph’s, where she later became Director of Nursing at a young age. Throughout her career, she served as Head of Staff Development at numerous hospitals and facilities and taught in the LPN program through Hunterdon County Adult Education. Most recently, Connie worked as a nurse at Hunterdon Care Center in Flemington, New Jersey.
Outside of her professional life, Connie enjoyed scrapbooking and reading, relaxing at the beach, and traveling. Her travels took her to many memorable destinations, including Mexico, China, and Russia. She was especially known and cherished for her homemade pierogies and kolatz, as well as her beautiful and abundant trays of Christmas cookies.
Connie will be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, Nana, aunt, neighbor, and friend. In addition to her husband, John, she is survived by her two loving sons: Luke and his wife, Nancy, of Gladstone, New Jersey, and Matthew and his wife, Wendy, of Scottsdale, Arizona; her cherished grandsons, Adam and Jacob; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, New Jersey. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 316 Old Allerton Road, Annandale, New Jersey. Interment of ashes will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Annandale.
Floral tributes may be sent to the Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 316 Old Allerton Road, Annandale, New Jersey.
