Daniel C. Cavanaugh
Loving husband to wife Kathleen Shannon, father of Matthew and Mark. He possessed sincere compassion for others. He was dedicated to volunteer work to bring joy to others.
Daniel C. Cavanaugh, 77, of Lebanon Borough, NJ passed away on Monday, February 24, 2020 at Morristown Hospital.
He was born on August 21, 1942 in Pittsburgh, PA. He lived in Lebanon Borough for 23 years. Prior to that he lived in Hillsborough, NJ. He was the son of the late Anna McCollum Cavanaugh and Edward J. Cavanaugh, E.J.
Dan worked as a Traffic Manager for Kids ‘R Us in Somerset, NJ and other retail stores in Pittsburgh and Ohio. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed driving for a limousine for several years. When he left the limousine business, he used his experience driving to provide rides for local people. He was especially known for offering free rides to people going to visit their doctors. He also became a driver for Meals on Wheels in Hunterdon County. He enjoyed seeing the smiles from his “clients” when he brought them a hot meal.
Dan enjoyed golfing and walking at the Ken Lockwood Gorge, often admiring the Great Blue herons that fish there. He was an inspirational leader for book studies at Unity Spiritual Center, where he also created a meditation group and was on the Board of Directors for several years.
Dan left behind, in addition to his loving wife, two sons; Matthew Cavanaugh of Pittsburgh, PA and Mark Cavanaugh of Chapel Hill, NC. Two step-children; Kathleen Daly and her husband Jack Pringle of Clarksburg, WV and John S. Daly and his wife Anre of New York, NY. He is also survived by his brother-in-law; Al Sterling of Pittsburgh, PA.
Predeceased by three siblings: Father Harry Cavanaugh, Edward Cavanaugh and Elizabeth Sterling.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 3 pm to 4 pm.
Memorial Service at 4 pm at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ.
Interment will be private.
