Dawn Marie Christy Granja

Dawn Marie Christy Granja, age 42, formerly of Bridgewater, NJ passed away on June 4th, 2023 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY with her loving family by her side.

She was born on November 30, 1980 in Woodstock, VA. and has resided for the past 40 years in Bridgewater, NJ.

She was the beloved daughter of Ronald William and Catherine Brarens Christy of Readington Twp., NJ.

Dawn was a graduate of Bridgewater Raritan High School, class of 1999.  She also attended Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg, NJ. 

She worked for Jordan Doyle Farm in Readington, NJ as the head of Agricultural Education.  She was passionate about her career as she loved facilitating tours for schools and educating youth on farming. She also worked for the company’s commercial snow removal division.  She loved bailing hay and running tractors.Her co-workers were like family to her.

Dawn was an active member of Somerset County 4H until age 19 and then became a volunteer for 21 years.  She was also a co-leader with her mother of the Somerset County 4H Sheepfold Club.  She was very instrumental in planning for the Somerset County 4-H Fair competitions for the sheep division members.  She was also a member of the NJ Sheep Breeders Association. 

Dawn loved the outdoors.  She enjoyed going to the shore, camping and spending time with her children on the family farm in Readington. She also loved taking her daughter, Emily, to compete in horse shows. 

Survivors in addition to her loving parents include two precious children; Richard Granja of Bridgewater, NJ and Emily Granja of Bridgewater, NJ.  Two brothers; Ron Christy Jr and his wife Ashley of Hillsborough, NJ and Douglas Christy of Hillsborough, NJ.  Her niece and Goddaughter; Riley Christy.  Maternal grandmother; Barbara Verhage of Milan, PA.  Paternal grandmother; Margery Christy of Mt. Jackson, VA.  She is also survived by Ricardo Granja, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, beloved friends, and her extended 4-H family. 

Predeceased by her maternal grandfather; Douglas Brarens and paternal grandfather; William Christy.  She is also predeceased by her Aunt; Bonnie Christy and her beloved best friend; Desiree Willard. 

Calling hours will take place on Friday, June 9, 2023 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.  Funeral service will be Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 11am. at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ.  Interment will be private.
