Dietger ‘Ernie’ Ernest Jung

Dietger Ernest ‘Ernie’ Jung, age 84, of Holland, MI, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025 at Appledorn South Assisted Living in Holland, MI.

He was born on March 17, 1940 in Heiligenbeil, Germany and was the son of the late Ernst and Martha Kollwig Jung.  

He immigrated to the United States at age 11, moving to Hunterdon County to live with his Aunt and Uncle, Albert and Ella Reischuck, who raised him and his siblings.  He resided on the family farm in Glen Gardner, NJ until joining the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA. After graduating from USC, he traveled the world as a Navy officer and later worked inengineering and industrial sales.  

His beloved wife, Susan Caroline White Jung, passed away in 2019 after 54 years of marriage. 

The couple resided in Long Valley, NJ for many years before moving to Uniontown, PA for several years. Ernie resided in Holland, MI for the past two years. 

Ernie was a Free & Accepted Mason at a Lodge in North Jersey as well as Pennsylvania.  

He will always be remembered for his love of gardening, technology, and stamp collecting.  He also loved his cats.  

Survivors include three sons; David Jung and his wife Catherine ‘Caz’ of Holland, MI, Eric Jung and his wife Susan of Whitehouse Station, NJ and Timothy Jung and his wife Kris of CO.  Five grandchildren; Kimberly, Brian, Robert, Matthew and Lauren.  One brother; Eberhard Jung and his wife Bozena of PA.  Two nieces; Rebecca and Natalie.  He is also survived by many beloved cousins.  

Predeceased in addition to his wife by one sister, Sigrid Bernstein.  

Graveside service will take place on Friday, March 14, 2025 at 11am at Spruce Run Lutheran Cemetery in Glen Gardner, NJ.
