Doris DeLorenzo Obituary

Doris DeLorenzo, age 89, of Hillsborough Twp., NJ, passed away on Thursday January 1, 2026, peacefully at home with her loving family by her side.

Doris was born on August 7, 1936, in Somerville, NJ, to the late Peter and Iva (Dilts) Emery. She has been a lifelong resident of Neshanic and Hillsborough Twp., NJ.

Doris was the wife of the late Alfred V. DeLorenzo. The two married when Doris was 18 years old, and were together until Alfred’s passing in 2015.

Doris worked in the cafeteria before joining the janitorial staff for the Montgomery Township School District in Skillman, NJ. She was beloved by staff and shared a special bond with the students.

Doris was very selfless and was devoted to helping people. She was very involved with Special Olympics, having been inspired by her brother with Down Syndrome. She also loved being in nature and bird watching. One of her favorite memories was going in a hot air balloon for her birthday one year. She was an avid hiker, having enjoyed hiking Round Valley Reservoir, Merrill Creek Reservoir, and other trails throughout Northern NJ and PA with her son and beloved dog Jenny. She also backpacked The Enchantments in The Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area of Washington State with her husband Alfred and daughter. 

Doris is survived by her four loving children: Alfred V. DeLorenzo Jr. of Hillsborough, NJ; Yvonne Peters of Leavenworth, WA; Michael DeLorenzo of Hillsborough, NJ; and Timothy DeLorenzo of Belle Mead, NJ. Her two grandchildren: Benjamin DeLorenzo and Ashley DeLorenzo. Her two great-grandchildren: Weston Michael DeLorenzo and Zeppelin William Peters. She is also survived by her sister, Mildred Bridges of Bridgewater, NJ.

In addition to her husband, Doris is predeceased by her son, Mark DeLorenzo, who passed in 2018. Her grandsons, Markie DeLorenzo and Caleb Peters. She is also predeceased by five siblings: Katherine Hultz, Nellie McCreary, Howard Emery, Earle Emery and Peter Emery.
