Edna P. Wene

Edna, P. Wene, age 75, of Union Twp., NJ passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, NJ.

She was born on April 17, 1948 in Flemington, NJ. She was a life long resident of Hunterdon County.

She was the daughter of the late Sylvanus and Marion Compton.

Edna was the wife of Pastor Dennis A. Wene, celebrating 54 years of marriage.

She was a graduate of Hunterdon Central High School in Flemington, NJ and she attended The College of New Jersey in Ewing Twp., NJ.

She was an Industrial Sewing Instructor for the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women in Union Twp., NJ until her retirement.

Edna’s faith was unwavering. She was known as a prayer warrior and would pray endlessly for those in need. She was very active with the Tres Dias organization where she would make numerous aprons. While she was a member of the Pattenburg United Methodist Church, she was heavily involved with High Bridge United Methodist Church, where her husband is the Pastor. Over the years, Edna also enjoyed teaching Sunday School for the United Methodist Churches in High Bridge, Pattenburg, West Portal, Finesville, Everittstown and Quakertown. In addition to teaching Sunday school, she also volunteered for countless church dinners at just about every United Methodist Church in Hunterdon County. She also was very instrumental in the Food Pantry at High Bridge United Methodist Church.

While Edna was so incredibly involved with her church families, she will always be remembered for being a quiet person who loved being with her friends and family.

Survivors in addition to her loving husband include two children; Debbie Colwell and her husband Jeffrey of Thornton, CO and Mark Wene and his wife Taylor of Dearing, KS. Five grandchildren; Rachel Colwell, Jack Colwell, Heidi Wene, Lily Wene and Wendy Wene.

Predeceased by two siblings; Roy Compton and Doris Orashen.

Calling hours will take place on Monday, July 10, 2023 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral will be Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 10am. All at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Interment will be private. Following the funeral, everyone is invited to join the family at 12pm at the High Bridge United Methodist Church, 36 Church Street, High Bridge, NJ for refreshments.
