Edward J. Sweeney

Edward Joseph Sweeney, age 68, of longtime resident of Roselle Park, NJ, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 16, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on August 30, 1957, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Edward was raised in Elizabeth and Hillside before making his home in Roselle Park. He was the beloved son of the late Edward Joseph Sweeney and Margaret (Malone) Sweeney.

Edward dedicated many years of his career as a heavy mechanic with A. Servidone, Inc/B. Anthony Construction Corp, JV. until his retirement in 2025.  He took great pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and mechanical skill. Previously, he was partners in his own trucking company ‘Sweeney & Magers’ from 1984 to 1997.

Outside of work, Edward had a passion for NHRA drag racing, enjoyed reading, loved spending time boating, and cherished relaxing at the Jersey Shore. Above all, he treasured every moment spent with his family.

Edward is survived by his brother, Mark Sweeney (Kathleen) of Lebanon, New Jersey, and his sister, Sharon Halliday (Steven) also of Lebanon, New Jersey. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Ryan (Tricia), Jessica (Carl), Jackie (Vince), Kaitlyn (Kris), Jillian, Samantha, Brittany, and Kylie; as well as his great-nieces and great-nephews, Olivia, Lucas, Tyler, Gavin, and Austin.

In addition to his parents, Edward was predeceased by his sister, Tracey Sielski, who passed away in 2018.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ, where a memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Edward’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
