Elinor Louise Burd

Elinor “Ellie” Louise Burd, age 96, of Tewksbury Twp., NJ passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at home. 

She was born on June 1, 1927 in Clinton Twp., NJ. She was a lifelong resident of Hunterdon County. 

She was the daughter of the late Wm. Robert and Mabel C. Beck Jones. 

Her beloved husband, Milton Burd, passed away in 1992. 

Ellie was a homemaker most of her life, taking care of her family on their farm in Tewksbury Twp., NJ. In her younger years, she commuted on the train to Morristown during the War to make parts for the military, something she was very proud of. 

Memberships include the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Annandale, NJ. She was also a member of the Senior Women’s organization in Tewksbury. 

Ellie was the designated Family historian. She wrote a book on the Burd family history and loved genealogy. She also enjoyed country music. She loved hosting country shows at the family farm. Most of all, she adored her family and enjoyed spending time with them. 

Survivors include one son; John Milton Burd Jr. Of Tewksbury Twp., NJ. Several nieces and nephews including Charlie Jackson of Lebanon Twp., NJ. 

Predeceased in addition to her husband by her daughter; Carrie Ann Burd. Three siblings; Evelyn Burd, Willard Jones and David Jones. 

Calling hours will be Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 6pm - 8pm. Funeral service will be Friday, October 13, 2023 at 11am. All will be at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Interment at Spruce Run Cemetery on West Hill Road in Glen Gardner, NJ.
