Elizabeth Ann Reed

Elizabeth Ann Reed, age 92, of Clinton Twp., NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Rolling Hills Care Center in Clinton Twp., NJ.

She was born on August 17, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA.  She lived in Clinton Twp., NJ since 1970 and then moved to Union Twp., NJ in 1999.  She had resided at Rolling Hills Care Center for several years.

She was predeceased by her parents Richard Thompson Howard and Blanche Reed, as well as her two siblings, Richard T. Howard, Jr. and Helen (Holly) Zanas.  Her beloved husband, Lt. Commander Lynn DeForest Reed Jr. (USN, Retired), passed away in 1996 after 41 years of marriage.

Elizabeth graduated from West Chester College with her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and later earned her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Colorado.  She was a teacher at the Clinton Twp. School District until her retirement.

Memberships include the Order of the Eastern Star Stewart Chapter #166 where she was also a Grand Officer.  She was also a member of the New Jersey Education Association, National Education Association and over the years was also a Lioness, as well as a Cub Scout den mother, Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader.

Elizabeth was a self-described “beach rat”.  She loved being near, in or on the ocean whether it be sailing, camping, swimming, digging for clams, collecting shells or lying on the beach wriggling her toes in the sand.  She enjoyed travelling, including cruises in Alaska and the Caribbean, touring the country from coast to coast, and visiting overseas destinations including London and Morocco where she actually rode a camel, much to her husband’s surprise.  She was an accomplished knitter and seamstress, creating everything from personalized Christmas stockings to complex Icelandic sweaters to bridesmaids’ gowns.  But, more than anything, Elizabeth was a mom whose greatest joy was sharing in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

Survivors include three children: Lynn DeForest Reed III and his wife Debra of Jasper, TN,  Beth (Reed) Siegert and her husband Mark of Oakdale, PA, and Channon Reed of Whitehouse, NJ.  Four grandchildren; Stephanie (Miller) Conlon and her husband Sean of Pittsburgh, PA, Sarah (Miller) Neeley and her husband Douglas of Nashville, TN, Sean Alexander Reed of Lebanon, NJ and Ian Andrew Reed of Lebanon, NJ.  Three great-granddaughters; Riley Shannon Conlon, Olivia Rae Conlon and Finley Quinn Conlon, all of Pittsburgh, PA.  She will also be missed by many dear friends with whom she so willingly shared her experience, strength and hope.

Calling hours will take place on Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 2pm to 5pm with Eastern Star Services at 4:15pm.  All at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ.  Interment will be private.
