Elizabeth Roberts Obituary

Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Mary Roberts, age 60, of Bridgewater, NJ passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024 at home.

She was born on June 18, 1964 in Brooklyn, NY.  She spent her childhood in New York and resided in New Jersey for the past 34 years with her husband.

She was the daughter of Mary O’Neill Smith of Bronx, NY and the late Brendan Smith who passed away in 2008.

Liz was the wife of Cliff Roberts, celebrating 34 years of marriage.

She was a graduate of the University of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, NY where she earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Liz began her career as a Registered Nurse in New York and then worked for the Visiting Nurses Association of Somerset Hills for many years.   During her time in New York City, Liz worked in hospitals in The Bronx at the height of the AIDS crisis.  Her care for the young men who suffered from AIDS allowed them the dignity she gave all her patients.  Her many years at the VNA in NJ was spent serving the elderly in wound care and then later to care givers of the sick and dying in the community care area.  Her career in NY and NJ allowed everyone to see what a deeply caring nurse she was.

Liz was above all an avid musician, starting with Irish Accordion and then moving to Bagpipes, starting with the Manhattan College Pipe Band while she pursued her nursing degree. She was an active member of the Saint Ann’s of Hampton Pipes and Drums where she was the Pipe Major before her husband resumed the role.  She and her husband advanced St Ann’s Pipe Band from a simple street band into a Bonafide competition band, bringing the band to Scotland to compete at The World Championships of Piping in Glasgow Scotland.   In addition to the bagpipes, Liz was a very accomplished harpist.  She was also currently a Yoga instructor at eZential Wellness Center in Branchburg, NJ.  Liz was passionate about Yoga and loved teaching classes and it became a central part of her life after nursing.  She truly was the light that honored the light in you.

She loved traveling and especially cruising.  She loved visiting the ocean and being on the beach where many family memories were made on the east end of Long Island, Aruba and anywhere there was an ocean.

Survivors in addition to her loving husband and her mother include five siblings; Bennie Smith and his wife Angela of Bronx, NY, Johanna Martin and her husband Seamus of Woodcliff Lake, NJ, John Smith and his wife Susie of Scarsdale, NY, Stephen Smith and his wife Mary of Yonkers, NY and Deirdre Rief and her husband Darren of Bronx, NY. Eight nieces and nephews; Sarah Smith, Shane Martin, Kathleen Martin, Hanna Martin, Rose Martin, Emily Smith, Ryan Smith and Noleen Smith.  She is also survived by her mother-in-law; Dolores Roberts of Bronxville, NY.

Predeceased in addition to her father by her father-in-law; George Roberts who passed away in 2005.
