Esther M. Rivero

Esther M. (Perez) Rivero, age 98, long-time resident of North Bergen, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at the Hunterdon Care Center in Raritan Twp., NJ.

She was born on January 1, 1928 in Cienfuegos, Cuba. She immigrated to the United States with her husband Roberto and twodaughters in 1967 settling in West New Y ork, NJ.

Esther and Roberto resided in North Bergen, NJ for many years before moving to the Hunterdon Care Center in 2022. Roberto passed away in March of 2023, three months after the two celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Esther was a seamstress and sample maker until her retirement in 1992. She loved working in New York City in the fashion design houses. She enjoyed the process of working with designers and models to make the first version of a given masterpiece. She was a wonderful cook. Her family loved all her Cuban specialties. She was also an artist with a crochet needle. In her spare time, she could be found in front of the television watching her beloved Yankees and telenovelas, or demolishing any brave opponents in a game of dominos. Most of all she loved spending time with her daughters and grandkids.

She is survived by her two daughters; Adriana Regojo of Florida and Esther Ferguson and her husband Andrew Ferguson of Lebanon, NJ, her three adored grandchildren; Erick Regojo of Saddle Brook, NJ, Catriona Ferguson of Queens, NY and Mairi Ferguson of Lebanon, NJ, and nieces and nephews scattered throughout the United States, Cuba, and Spain.

Esther was predeceased by her five siblings; Pedro, Justo, Rosario, Emma and Pedro Roman.

Esther will be missed, never forgotten, and always loved.

Per Esther’s wishes, there will not be a viewing. After her cremation, a committal service will take place on Friday, February 20, 2026 at 11:00 am at Flower Hill Cemetery and Mausoleum, 5433 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Bergen, NJ 07047.
