Florian ‘Floyd’ Petrole Obituary

Florian “Floyd” Petrole, age 79, of Clinton Township, NJ passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township, NJ. Born on March 2, 1944 in Union, NJ, Floyd resided in Clinton Township since 1984, having previously called Hampton, NJ, his home town.

He was one of the cherished sons of the late Joseph Charles and Marie Laucik Petrole. Floyd was the devoted husband of Norma Pereyra-Petrole, and together they celebrated forty years of marriage.

Floyd dedicated his professional life as a Laborer for Local #472 in Newark, NJ until his well-earned retirement. In the quiet of winter when work slowed its pace, Floyd found comfort in the enchanting allure of Key West, FL where he embraced his inner pirate, savoring the freedom of the open sea – embarking on a journey working on fishing boats.

Floyd found solace and purpose in his memberships at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Whitehouse Station, NJ and the Local #472 Union. His life was rich with passions, and he pursued them wholeheartedly. Fishing, gardening, and above all, his beloved family, grandchildren and friends brought immense joy to his days. Floyd found peace casting his line at Round Valley Reservoir and surf fishing along the shore, savoring every moment spent by the ocean. He especially enjoyed introducing the sport of fishing to family and friends.

His green thumb was evident in the beautiful vegetables that graced his garden and many of meals with family and friends. Cooking and relishing Portuguese cuisine were among Floyd’s favorite pastimes. Always dressed in his Stetson hat when going out, Floyd will be remembered not only for his handsome demeanor, but also for the warmth and love he exuded.

Survived by his adoring wife, Floyd leaves behind a legacy of love that extends to his three step-children: Michael Henn and wife Debra of Clinton, NJ, Peter Henn of Titusville, FL, and Lisa Barr and husband Jefferson of Ship Bottom, NJ. His four grandchildren, Sean Henn, Justin Henn, Ethan Henn, and Morgan Henn, were the apple of his eye. He is also survived by two sisters, Jackie Kuhl of Flemington, NJ, and Dorothea 'Dottie' Occhipinti of Flemington, NJ, along with several nieces and nephews.

Floyd was predeceased by his three brothers: Michael Vincent Petrole, Carl Gary Petrole, and Joseph Petrole.
