Gary T. Burns, age 67, of Clinton Twp., NJ passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY.
He was born on July 2, 1956 in Newark, NJ. He spent his childhood in Kearny, NJ and lived in Clinton Twp. for the past 25 years.
He was the son of the late Florence Burns.
He was the husband of Susan E. Burns, celebrating 29 years of marriage and nearly 40 years of life together.
Gary retired from the Passaic Valley Sewage Commissioners after working for the company for 25 years. Prior to that, he worked for the Kearny Public Works Department. He was also a New York Teamster driver for several construction and demolition companies for 15 years.
Gary was previously a member of the Lebanon Borough Fire Company and was a member of the Clinton Twp. Environmental Commission. He was also a longtime member of the Water Environment Federation and member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Through his retirement years Gary belonged to several local photography clubs.
He was an avid photographer. He loved playing the guitar and loved music, especially bluegrass music. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying camping, boating, hiking, traveling, and visiting national parks. He was a life-long fan of the Green Bay Packers.
Survivors in addition to his loving wife include one daughter; Caitlyn Burns of Clinton Twp., NJ, along with their beloved dog, Molly. Three sisters-in-law; Sandra Coccia (Tom), Linda Bamonte and Ann Drummond (Ralph). One brother-in-law; John Babbitt (Peggy). Many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. He is also survived by cousins; William ‘Bill’ Reichers (Vera), Marilyn Boehm (Wally) and John Burns (Kaye). Goddaughter; Riley Cassidy.
Predeceased by two brothers-in-law; Michael Babbitt and David Babbitt.
Calling hours will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 12pm – 2pm with Memorial Service at 2pm at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Interment will be private.
