George William Crampton Jr.

George William Crampton Jr., age 85, of Englewood, FL, passed away on July 26, 2024 at home.   

He was born on May 9, 1939 to the late George W. and Ruth Lindeman Crampton in High Bridge, NJ. He spent most of his life in High Bridge and was a graduate of High Bridge High school.  He moved to Englewood, FL in 1993, where he resided for the remainder of his life.

George was the husband of Margaret Vibbert Crampton, celebrating 61 years of marriage. 

George was a correction officer at Mountain View Youth Correctional Facility in Clinton Twp., NJ until his retirement. 

Memberships include the High Bridge Fire Department where he was Chief from 1976-1977.  He was also a member of the NJ Firemen’s Association and Hunterdon County Fire Chief’s Association. He was formally a member of High Bridge rescue squad.

George loved gardening. He lived for the fire department and he loved his home town of High Bridge. 

Survivors in addition to his loving wife include two children; Cynthia Crampton of Punta Gorda, FL and William Crampton and wife Sheryl of Washington, NJ. One sister; Barbara Skripko of Hampton, NJ. He is survived by two granddaughters; Melanie Crampton and Amanda Crampton. Many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by five siblings; Lois Philhower, Joan Hoffman, Joyce Shaub, Marilyn Crampton, and Larry ‘Homer’ Crampton.

Calling hours will take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 10am – 1pm with firemen’s funeral service at 1pm at Naughright-Scarponi Funeral Home, 66 Main Street, High Bridge, NJ.  Interment at Evergreen Cemetery in Clinton, NJ. 

Memorials can be made in George’s memory to the High Bridge Fire Department, 7 Maryland Avenue, High Bridge, NJ.
