George Strelec Obituary

George Strelec, age 87, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.  George was born on July 6, 1936 in Boonton, NJ to Anna (Tinus) and Andrew Strelec, the fifth of seventeen children. 

He lived in Boonton, Morristown, Raritan and lastly residing in Union Township, Hunterdon County, for the past 53 years.

In 2000 George retired from the NJ Department of Transportation Annandale yard working in Bridge repair.

George enjoyed traveling, cruising, do-it-yourself house projects, as well as woodworking, playing cards, bingo, watching football and baseball on TV, listening to country/western and polka music.  In the past, he was a very active member of the Union Township Seniors.  Most of all he loved fmaily time, especially time spent with his children and grandchildren.  He will be missed by his family. 

George is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Anna (Sima) Strelec, his son, Steven Janowski of Massapequa, NY and his daughter, Andrea (Todd) Johnstone of Bloomsbury, NJ.  Two grandchildren; Madeline and Miles Johnstone.  He is also survived by three brothers, Robert Strelec of Davenport, FL, Stephen (Cynthia) Strelec of Randolph, NJ and Fred (Mary Jean) Strelec of Ocala, FL.  Six sisters; Josephine Milstead of Rensselaer, NY, Catherine Fiorentino of Morristown, NJ, Barbara Strelec of Landing, NJ, Rose Marie D’Augustine of Succasunna, NJ, Patricia (Howard) Mann of Stanhope, NJ and Christine (Al) Penza of Stanhope, NJ.  Brothers-in-law, James Morrison and Joseph (Dorothy) Sima.  Sisters-in-law, Edith Strelec, Susan Strelec and Frances Strelec.  George also leaves behind many, many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son, James Janowski.  Six brothers, Andrew Strelec, Michael Strelec, John Strelec, Frank Strelec, Diedrich Strelec and Anthony Strelec.  One sister, Margaret Morrison.  Brothers-in-law, Mickey Milstead, Nick Fiorentino and John D’Augustine.  Sisters-in-law, Sheila Strelec, Rosalie Strelec and Margaret Portela. 

The family extends a special thank you to Hunterdon Hospice for the care given to George, especially to Tyler, Grace, Kelly and Joann. 

Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 18, 2024 from 2-6pm at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ.  Funeral Mass will be held Monday, February 19, 2024 at 11am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 316 Old Allerton Road, Annandale, NJ.  Interment will be private.
