Geraldine M. Verniero, 91, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2024, at Bayside Manor in Keansburg, NJ. Born on October 11, 1932, in Newark, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Tasco Addeo and lifelong resident of the Garden State. Her husband, Peter A. Verniero, passed away in 2020.
When she wasn’t traveling with family and friends, Geraldine enjoyed sewing and was an avid reader. She would finish reading a book in only a few days (sometimes reading more than one book at a time) and then move on to the next. She loved a good mystery novel but was open to all literary genres, filling the family book shelves with rows of hard-covered volumes for others to borrow and enjoy.
But her greatest passion was her love of family. She will always be remembered for being a caring mother who adored her children and grandchildren. All who knew her also will remember Geraldine’s gracious manner, her inquisitive mind and strength of character.
She is survived by three children: Marlene Walsh; Peter Verniero and his wife, Lisa Gaede Verniero; and John Verniero and his wife, Maria Calabrese; and two grandchildren, Jaye and Madeline Verniero.
Predeceased, in addition to her husband, by seven siblings and her son-in-law, John Jeffery Walsh who passed away in 2020.
Calling hours will take place on Sunday, January 7, from 2 to 5pm at Scarponi-Bright funeral home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, January 8, beginning at 11am at Immaculate Conception Church, 316 Old Allerton Road, Annandale, NJ, with private interment to follow.
