Gregorio Sciortino, age 75, of Bound Brook, NJ passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ.
He was born on January 27, 1948 in Bagheria, Italy. After being in the Italian Army, he immigrated to the United States in 1978 and has resided in Bound Brook, NJ with his beloved wife.
He was the son of the late Michelangelo and Maria Lanza Sciortino.
He was the husband of Maria Tripoli Sciortino, celebrating 55 years of marriage.
While living in Italy, Gregorio worked construction and farming jobs. When he came to the United States he was the ‘Pizza Man’, owning several pizzerias throughout his career including Mama’s Pizza in Garwood, NJ.
He was known as ‘Pops’ and loved by all. He loved gardening, making pizza, and being with kids. He will always be remembered for being very sharp and good with numbers.
Survivors in addition to his loving wife include two sons; Michelangelo Sciortino of Bound Brook, NJ and Cosimo Sciortino and his wife Susan of Linden, NJ. One grandson; Donavin Sciortino. Five siblings; Angelo, Anthony, Catherine, Gina and Sarina. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Cosimo Tripoli.
Predeceased by two beloved nephews; Giuseppe Tripoli and Vittorio Tripoli.
Calling hours will take place on Sunday, April 2, 2023 from 4-7pm at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Funeral Mass will be Monday, April 3, 2023 at 10am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 111 E. High Street, Bound Brook, NJ. Entombment at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway, NJ.
