James Horvath Obituary

James Seton Horvath, age 79, of Clinton, NJ, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, NJ. 

James was born on July 26, 1946, in Montclair, NJ, to the late James Emory and Mary Elizabeth (O’Brien) Horvath. He spent his childhood in Bloomfield, NJ, and has resided in Clinton, NJ, since 1994. 

James served in the Army National Guard. He graduated from Montclair State University with his bachelor's degree, and then went on to earn his master's in fine arts from Kean University. In 1974, he began working as a teacher for Abraham Clark High School in Roselle, NJ, where he taught graphic design and photography until his retirement. 

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in High Bridge, NJ. 

James loved riding motorcycles and was a member of the Indian Motorcycle Club. He was an avid runner and participated in multiple marathons. He enjoyed photography, kayaking, canoeing, and, years ago, loved skiing. He was a history enthusiast and enjoyed collecting World War II memorabilia. 

James is survived by his four children: Caitlyn Jamie Mitchell of Stroudsburg, PA; Justin Kyle Horvath and his wife, Julia, of Germany; Colleen Elizabeth Horvath of Clinton, NJ; and Carson Mary Horvath and her fiancé, Jacob Pride, of East Stroudsburg, PA. His grandchildren: Frank Delpopolo of Centerville, OH; Jordan Horvath of Clinton, NJ; Leilynn Mitchell of Pottsville, PA; and Phoenix McWilliams of Stroudsburg, PA. His two nieces, Denise and Krista. 

James is predeceased by his two siblings, Diane Elizabeth Horvath Noll and Chris Horvath. 

Memorial mass will take place on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 1pm, at St. Joseph’s Church, 59 Main St., High Bridge, NJ. Interment will be private. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Francis Inn.
