James Henry McCatharn

James Henry McCatharn, age 86, of Milford, NJ passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Twp., NJ. 

He was born on December 20, 1938 in Clinton Twp., NJ.  He grew up on the family farm in Lamington and graduated from Bernardsville High School.  He resided in Milford for the past 32 years with his loving wife. 

He was the son of the late Harry and Sarah ‘Sally’ Flick McCatharn.

James was the husband of Carol Ann Gasman McCatharn, celebrating 63 years of marriage.

He owned and operated Calios Exxon in Whitehouse Station, NJ where he was an auto mechanic until his retirement.  James loved working on cars whether it was in his shop or at home. He even had a model A car that he worked on restoring for years.

Memberships include Host Lodge Free and Accepted Masons in High Bridge, NJ.

James was an avid NASCAR fan. He also loved going to car shows, woodworking, mowing his lawn, doing puzzles and word searches.  He also loved playing games and played board games daily with his wife.   He adored his family and loved spending time with them.

Survivors in addition to his loving wife include three children; Debbie Presuto and her husband Thomas of Ringoes, NJ, Charlene Barry and her husband Michael of Washington, NJ and Jimmy McCatharn of Milford, NJ.  Seven grandchildren; Abigail Barry, Kevin Presuto and his fiancé Kate, Rachel Kalatucka and her husband Ryan, Patrick Presuto, Kelsey McCatharn, Madyson McCatharn and Conor McCatharn.  One great-granddaughter; Samia Barry.  Four siblings; Harry McCatharn and his wife Donna of VA, Peggy Lambert and her husband Ronald of Danville, PA, Ada Botzan of Hampton, NJ and Gloria Smith and her husband Troy of Lebanon, NJ.  Several nieces and nephews. 

Predeceased by one brother; Buddy McCatharn who passed away in 2000. 

Calling hours will take place on Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 9am – 11am with funeral service at 11am at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ.  Interment at Fairmount Cemetery in Califon, NJ.
