We are sad to announce the passing of James W. Reed on Sunday September 4, 2022 at Morristown Medical Center.
James was born on March 16, 1932 in Pottersville, NJ to Mary Reed. James married the love of his life, Shirley Beavers on August 15, 1954 in Oldwick, NJ. James and Shirley raised two children, Jamie and Emilie, and have 6 grandchildren. Three years ago, James and Shirley moved to Flemington, NJ.
James was a past supreme of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon of North America, a lifetime member of the National Horseshoe Pitcher’s Association where he was also in the Hall of Fame and Past President, a dedicated member and ex-chief of the Oldwick Fire Company, and a previous director of Tewksbury public works department. James held a council position with the Zion Lutheran Church, and founded the Senior Club of Oldwick. James was also a member of the Hobart Chapter 63, Order of the Eastern Star of New Jersey, Host Lodge No. 6 in High Bridge and Amwell No. 12 Masonic Lodge of New Jersey and Shriner’s International.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Reed, brothers Harold Reed and Franklin Reed, and sisters Mabel Coughlin and Carolyn O’Dell.
He is survived by his wife Shirley (née Beavers), son Jamie Reed and his wife Cheryl, daughter Emilie Bacchetta and her husband Fred, brothers Robert Reed and Clarence Reed, and grandchildren Jesse Reed and his wife Katie, Christopher Reed, Mark Bacchetta and his fiancé Cynthia, Stephen Bacchetta, Sara Bacchetta, and Michelle Hopkins and her husband Connor.
Please join us to celebrate this life. Viewing will take place on Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 5pm to 8pm at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Funeral Service will be Friday, September 9, 2022 at 11am at Zion Lutheran Church, 56 Old Turnpike Road, Oldwick, NJ. The burial will take place at New Germantown Cemetery in Oldwick.
