Jane Carol O'Donnell

Jane Carol O’Donnell, age 74, of Lebanon Twp., NJ passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023 at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Twp., NJ after succumbing from complications of a long battle with neuromuscular illness.

She was born on August 10, 1948 in Glen Gardner, NJ.  She grew up on the family farm and was a lifelong resident of Califon, NJ.

She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Elsie Clark Sutton.

Her beloved husband, Ronald Lee Hoffman, passed away in 2014.

Jane was a graduate of North Hunterdon Regional High School in Annandale, NJ.  She also graduated from Trenton State College and Newark State Teachers College. 

She was a dedicated Elementary School Teacher in Clinton Twp, working with children for 33 years.  She taught third grade first at Spruce Run School, then Patrick McGaheran School until her retirement.  After retirement, she continued to work as a fourth grade Teacher’s Aide. 

She harnessed that love of teaching to author a children’s book entitled Hey!  There’s a Donkey In the Boro published in 2011.

Memberships include the Order of the Eastern Star Hobart Chapter in High Bridge, NJ.

Jane loved animals and while caring for many, she especially loved her little white poodle, Lily.  She enjoyed her many trips to North Carolina to visit family and loved going to yard sales with her husband.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her friends and family. 

Survivors include one daughter; Jessica Cahill and her husband Scott of Clinton Twp., NJ, one granddaughter; Brooke Cahill of Clinton Twp., NJ, and one step-daughter; Robin Bizub and her husband Edward of Kissimmee, FL.  She is also survived by one brother Fred Sutton and his wife Diane of Statesville, NC, three nieces; Shauna Garris and her husband Doug of Durham, NC, Christi McKenzie of NC and Monica Chimiak and her husband Chad of NC, great-nieces Lyndsay Garris, Taylor Chimiak, and Morgan Chimiak and great-nephews Jameson and Benjamin Garris.

Calling hours will take place on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 4-7pm.  Funeral service will be Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 10am.  All at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ.  Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Cokesbury, NJ.
