Jo-Ann Margaret Withington, age 83, of Stockton, NJ passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Rolling Hills Care Center in Clinton Twp., NJ.
She was born on January 12, 1937 to parents Allen and Annabel Tompkins in Plainfield, NJ where she grew up with her father as the mayor.
She graduated from Centenary College in 1957 and soon after started working at Prudential where she met her husband Geoffrey. She went on to help run their Sir Speedy printing business in Springfield, NJ, and then to the Messenger Gazette Newspapers printing department in Somerville, NJ. Her last job was at AAA in Bridgewater, NJ as a customer service representative.
Jo-Ann loved reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, animals, birdwatching as well as feeding the birds and deer in her yard. Her favorite place to go was their family island in Maine, “Little Gott Island.”
Survivors in addition to her husband of over 60 years Geoffrey of Stockton, NJ, are two daughters Pamela Withington of Glen Gardner, NJ, and Jennifer Helmer and her husband Keith of Flanders, NJ. Three grandchildren Dillon Withington, BridgetHelmer Peace and her husband Koby, and Abby Helmer and her fiancé Chris Mallatratt. She is also survived by one brother, Ted Tompkins, one sister-in-law Anne Gautier, along with one niece, five nephews, and 3 great grandsons.
A memorial service will be held when it is safe to have gatherings.
