Joan Blanchard Johnson, age 90, longtime resident of Lebanon Twp., NJ passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at St. Clair Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.
She was born on June 14, 1933 in Perth Amboy, NJ. She spent her childhood in Fords, NJ and resided in Lebanon Twp., NJ for many years before moving to Bethlehem, PA where she lived for 2 years. She lived in Bridgeville, PA for the past year.
She was the daughter of the late George and Mae Blanchard.
Her beloved husband, Henry H. Johnson, passed away in 2003.
Joan graduated from Kean University and spent her career as a Teacher at the Bethlehem Twp. School District until her retirement in 1998. She loved teaching and was committed to education.
Memberships include St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in High Bridge, NJ. Joan was also active with many Teacher’s Associations including the National Education Association. She was also a member of the Plainfield Kennel Club as she raised and showed pure bred dogs.
Joan was an avid reader. She also loved to knit and play games with family and friends. She enjoyed traveling with her husband all over the United States as well as Internationally.
Survivors include one daughter; Chris Anderson and her husband James O’Shaughnessy. Five grandchildren; Jackie Anderson, Luke Grimes and his wife Silvana, Alexa Johnson, Logan O’Shaughnessy and his wife Katie, and Blake O’Shaughnessy and his wife Carolyn.
Predeceased in addition to her husband by one son; Mark Johnson who passed away in 2016 and daughter-in-law; Carolyn ‘Lynn’ Johnson who passed away in 2020. One brother; Ken Blanchard.
Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, August 28, 2023 at 11am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 59 Main Street, High Bridge, NJ. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery in Clinton, NJ.
