John A. Nagle, age 86 of Annandale, New Jersey passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023 at home, after a long illness.
He was born on March 26, 1936 in Somerville, New Jersey. He resided in High Bridge, New Jersey most of his life. He was a graduate of High Bridge High School.
He was the son of the late Aloysius and Edith Ort Nagle.
He was stationed in the US Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma from 1958 – 1960 and received a Good Conduct Medal and commendations for Sharpshooter (rifle), Marksman (45 Cal Pistol) and Expert (22 Cal Pistol).
He was an Exempt Member of the High Bridge Fire Department.
He worked at Devro in Somerville, New Jersey for 38 years, as a machinist., retiring in 1998.
He worked at YMCA Camp Carr, in Annadale, New Jersey, as a maintenance caretaker from 1999 and retired in April of 2022.
For many years, he enjoyed camping and was a snowbird to Florida for the winters. He volunteered at Hillsborough River State Park in Zephryhills, Florida. He enjoyed refurbishing Fort Foster which held reenactments. In 2000, he travelled a little of 10,000 miles throughout the United States for 2 ½ months, seeing 28 States. He was an avid Nascar fan attending many races.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 38 ½ years, Sandy Nagle of Annandale, New Jersey; two sons, Timothy Nagle of Northampton, Pennsylvania and Kevin Nagle and his wife, Valerie of Benton, Arkansas; daughter Lori Schaffer and her husband Edward of Califon, New Jersey and grandchildren, Josh Nagle, Kailey Nagle Hastings, Carson Nagle, Alexis Lueger and Jack Schaffer. One great granddaughter, Everleigh Hastings. One brother, Joseph Nagle of High Bridge, New Jersey and sister, Elizabeth Nagle Crampton Banks, many nieces and nephews and his dog, Skeeter.
Predeceased by sons, John (Jack) A. Nagle, Jr. in 2014, Randy Harner in 2010, grandson, Joseph Nagle in 2016 and sister Mary Nagle Ader in 2015.
Calling Hours will take place on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm with Firemen’s Funeral Service at 8pm. All at Naughright-Scarponi Funeral Home, 66 Main Street, High Bridge, NJ 08829.
Internment will be held at a later date.
