Joseph ‘Joe’ Milton Lacey, Sr. age 93, of High Bridge, NJ passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Twp., NJ.
Born November 10, 1930 to Milton Lacey and Rachel Frome Lacey in the Boro of Washington, NJ.
He was a graduate of Washington High School, class of 1950.
Joe spent his career in law enforcement and was a patrolman for the Washington Borough Police Department, in Warren County for eight years. A graduate of the New Jersey State Police Academy for municipal police in Sea Girt, NJ. He became police chief of High Bridge, NJ in September 1965 and served that office for 30 years. He retired on December 31, 1995. He was a chartered member of the Hunterdon County Police Chiefs Association and served as President . He was appointed by freeholder William Winters to the charter committee to form the Hunterdon County Communication Center in Cherryville, NJ. A member of the Hunterdon Juvenile Association and a member of the New Jersey Police Chiefs Association, as well as a lifetime member of the International Police Chiefs Association. After retirement was employed by the Red Mill Museum in Clinton, NJ for 14 years.
He was a member of the Washington Alliance Church in Washington, NJ where he served as a Junior Dept. Sunday school teacher and also a kindergarten helper. He was also an usher and greeter. He was a Deacon and served on the board for a number of years and was a member of the building committee when the church relocated to Broadway, NJ.
Currently, he was a member of the Shepherd of the Valley Church in Milford NJ, where he served as head usher and head of the men’s ministry.
He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Alberta Ayers Lacey at home. Two sons; Richard and his wife Delores of Washington, NJ and FL, Garry and his wife Lisa of Kingwood Township, New Jersey. One daughter, Connie Ihling, and her husband Chuck of Bethlehem Township PA. Daughter-in-law; Diane Lacey of Oxford, NJ. Eight grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Virginia Landis and her husband Jacob of Trenton, NJ and one brother Dale Lacey and his wife Pearl of FL.
Predeceased by one son; Joseph Milton Lacey Jr., who passed away in 2021. He is also predeceased by one brother; Rev. Donald R. Lacey.
Calling hours will take place on Monday, August 12, 2024 from 6 to 8 PM and Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from 10 to 11AM at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main St., Lebanon, NJ. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 AM at the Funeral Home. Interment at Fairmount Cemetery in Phillipsburg, NJ.
