Joseph Andrew Spadafora

September 5, 1946 ~ August 18, 2021 (age 74)


Joseph A. Spadafora, age 74, of Bethlehem Twp., NJ passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ.

He was born on September 5, 1946 in Plainfield, NJ.  He spent his childhood in Scotch Plains, Budd Lake, Brooklyn, NY and North Plainfield. He resided in Bethlehem Twp. since 1978.

He was the second son of the late Fred and Ann Giacalone Spadafora.

He was the loving and devoted  husband of Tinamarie DelVacchio Spadafora, celebrating 42 years of marriage.

Joseph was a proud  US National Guard Veteran, serving from 1966 to 1971 where he was awarded with the Rifle Sharpshooter medal.

He was a self-employed builder, for over 50 years until recently settling into semi-retirement and operating  J.S. Home Improvements in Asbury, NJ.

Joe was a past member of the North Plainfield Rescue squad, past President of the Builders Association and also did various work  for Habitat for Humanity over the years.

He was a Little League  Baseball, Basketball, and  Soccer Coach for many years when his sons were young.  He also was very involved with his wife and daughter in theater productions , specifically with ‘SKIT”, Ethel Hoppock Middle School, and Bethlehem Twp. Performing Arts Association, where he built the sets for numerous plays and often appeared on stage, alongside his son and daughter. Whatever his children were involved with over the years, he participated as well.  There are countless kids that he has coached and touched their lives in some way who will fondly remember him as “Papa Joe”.

Joseph was also a lover of  history,  reading, music and nature.  He will  be remembered for being fun loving, always joking and quietly offering help and assistance to anyone in need.

Survivors in addition to his loving wife include three children;  Joe Spadafora and his wife Debbie of Andover, NJ, Nicole Spadafora of Annandale, NJ and Adam Spadafora and his wife Jill of Pittstown, NJ.  Three grandchildren; Joey, Nicholas and  his newest addition granddaughter Phoebe.  He is also survived by his puppy, Lucky Luciano and grand-dogs; Jersey Mae and Mia. Along with Adam & Jill’s tribe of kitties.  Two brothers; Fred Spadafora and his wife Dianne of Hilton Head, SC and Michael Spadafora of Alpha, NJ.  Several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including: God-Daughter Michelle Spadafora and her wife, Karen.  Amy Spadafora-Thompson and her husband Troy Thompson and Liam, Kathryn Spadafora, Mikey Spadafora. and his Aunt Rita of FL.  He is also survived by his mother-in-law; Lillian DelVacchio, brothers-in-law,  sisters-in-laws including Diana Russillo and her family, Richard DelVacchio and his family, Valerie Furno and her family,  and numerous additional  friends and family who love him dearly. 

Predeceased by his brother; Danny Spadafora. 

Memorial Mass will take place on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at 2pm at Church of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 80 Main Street, Bloomsbury, NJ 08804. Interment will be private.
