Joyce A. Gibson

Joyce A. Gibson, age 82, of Califon, NJ passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023 at home.

She was born on May 2, 1940 in Newark, NJ.  She was a life-long resident of the Califon area. 

She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Alice Rita Morrissey Pender.

Her beloved husband, Harold ‘Gibby’ Gibson, passed away in 1992.  The couple were High School sweethearts. 

Joyce worked at AM Best in Whitehouse, NJ for many years before working as a Bookkeeper for the Spina Bifida Resource Network in Flemington, NJ.

Memberships include Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Long Valley, NJ.  Years ago she was also a member of the Delaware Water Gap Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf. 

Joyce was a passionate quilter. She loved doing crafts and sewing.  Years ago, she owned and operated ‘Calico Ribbon Store’ in Califon, NJ. 

She also loved going to her home in the Poconos and loved to travel.  She was proud of her Irish heritage, traveling to Ireland three times during her lifetime.

Survivors include her three children; Daniel Gibson and his wife Judi of Vancouver, WA, Mark Gibson and his wife Ann Marie of Califon, NJ and Colleen Burd of Long Valley, NJ.  Eleven grandchildren; Emily, Elizabeth, Cori, Alice, Shane, Jason, Gabrielle, Megan, Tyler, James and Olivia.  Nine great-grandchildren.  Brother-in-laws; Wayne Thomas of Clinton, NJ and Edward Gibson of Ecuador. 

Predeceased in addition to her husband by her son-in-law; Ernest Burd who passed away in 2020.  Her daughter-in-law; Debra Gibson who passed away in 1998. Her brother; Richard Pender and her sister; Rosemary Thomas. 

A celebration of Joyce’s life will take place on April 1, 2023 from 2:30-5pm at Chimney Rock Inn, 41 NJ-31, Flemington, NJ.  Please RSVP to the luncheon at amgibson908@gmail.com.
