Lewis Apgar Obituary

Lewis E. Apgar, of Califon, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Hackettstown Hospital. He was 79 years old.

Born on July 13, 1946, Lewis was the son of the late Russell Apgar and Mary Frank Burd. He was a lifelong resident of Califon, NJ.

He spent his career as a truck driver and retired in 2005.

Lewis was the beloved husband of Jane M. (Yaple) Apgar, with whom he shared 50 years of love and companionship. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons, Jason Apgar and his wife, Amanda, of Hampton, New Jersey, and Michael Yaple and his wife, Heather, of Lebanon Township, New Jersey. He is also survived by his brother, Danny Apgar and his wife, Linda, of Hampton, New Jersey.

Lewis was a proud grandfather to Rylee Apgar and Kaylyn Yaple, who brought him tremendous joy. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Lewis enjoyed riding motorcycles and was happiest at home. He was well known throughout his neighborhood as the unofficial “neighborhood crime watch,” always keeping an eye out and looking after those around him. He also loved relaxing in his recliner while watching television. Above all, Lewis was truly one of a kind—a man whose unique personality, caring nature, and watchful presence will never be forgotten.

Family and friends will remember Lewis for his loyalty, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
