Maria Skarbek

Maria Skarbek, age 81, of Califon, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Maria was born on April 8, 1945, in Waltsch, Germany, to the late Michal and Weronika (Czapka) Madrala. She spent her childhood and early adult years in Poland, living in Bratkowice and later Rzeszow, before immigrating to the United States in 1994. She first settled in Maplewood, New Jersey, and spent the past 10 years residing in Califon.

Maria first worked for the WSK International Aerospace Company in Rzeszow, Poland, for many years and later worked at the Vocational Medical School in Rzeszow. After moving to the United States, she worked for Loving Care Agency in New Jersey, where she cared for others with compassion, kindness, and dedication.

Maria had a true zest for life and was known for her energetic spirit, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor. She brought joy to everyone around her and treasured every moment spent with family. Maria loved gardening and landscaping, often spending hours outdoors caring for the landscaping and clearing trees. She enjoyed music, dancing, traveling, and gathering with loved ones while sharing sweets and laughter. Above all, Maria was a devoted Catholic who faithfully prayed the rosary and cherished her family deeply.

Maria is survived by her three loving children: MarzenaSkarbek Malinowicz of England; Teresa De Marco and her husband, Nicholas, of Califon, New Jersey; and Daniel Lis of Clark, New Jersey. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Damian, Klaudia, Natalia, and Vanessa, and a cherished great-grandmother to Oskar, Julia, and Kacperek. She is also survived by her two sisters, Krystyna and Helena, of Germany. Maria was predeceased by her brothers, Jozef and Tadeusz, and her sister, Ana.

A Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 316 Old Allerton Road, Annandale, New Jersey. Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
