Marian Sylvia Palko

Marian Sylvia Palko, age 90, of Lebanon Borough, NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at her daughters home in Flemington NJ surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on June 7, 1931 in Somerville, NJ.  Marian grew up in Locktown and Cherryville, NJ and spent time in Colorado and Brooklyn NY.  She resided in Irvington, NJ for many years before moving to Lebanon Borough, NJ in 1999.

She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Belle (Wolfe) Oakes.

Her husband, John Palko, passed away in 1995 after being married for 38 years.  The couple was married on September 7, 1957 at St. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church in Elizabeth, NJ.

While Marian was primarily a homemaker, she was also a small business owner, secretary, beautician and teacher.  Her and her beloved husband owned and operated ‘Chicken Delight’ in Denville, NJ for many years. 

Memberships include the Round Valley United Methodist Church in Lebanon, NJ.  She grew up and was a part of the Alma White Zarephath Christian School in NJ.  She was also a member of the Lebanon Seniors.  Marian also enjoyed participating in exercise classes including ‘Silver Sneakers’. 

Marian loved vacationing with her husband and family, taking many trips to visit extended family in Pennsylvania.  She also loved to drive and would often take long road trips to visit and spend time with her sister Phyllis in Virginia. She enjoyed cruises, winning at the casino slots, spending time at her pool and going to the beach.  Marian was a supportive and giving friend, a loving mother and had a most generous heart.  Most of all, she adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. 

Survivors include her three children; Gregory Palko and his wife Christine, Sonia Palko and Sylvia Bouts.  Three grandchildren; Stephanie, Marlayna and Johnny.  Two step-grandchildren; Sophia and David.  She is also survived by her beloved sister; Phyllis Becker, extended family and many beloved friends.   

Predeceased in addition to her husband by five brothers; Lawrence, James, Donald, Robert and Danny Oakes. 

Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 2-5pm with a memorial service following at 5pm at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ.  Interment will be on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 10:30am at Locust Hill Cemetery, 168 N Sussex Street, Dover, NJ.
