Michael James O’Neill, age 69, of Lebanon Borough, NJ passed away on Monday, July 13, 2020 at home.
He was born on March 3, 1951 in Brooklyn, NY. He grew up in Elizabeth, NJ and spent most of his life in Hunterdon County. He resided in Lebanon Borough for the past 15 years.
He was the son of the late James and Jean Wolfarth O’Neill.
His wife, Michelle Doktor, passed away in May of 2016.
Mike was a Senior Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor for Freedom House in Glen Gardner, NJ where he worked for 27 years. His career as a Counselor was very important to him and he was very active in the recovery community. He was also a friend of Bill W.
Mike had a passion and dedication to helping addicts. He was always an advocate for “tough love” but his inner core was really a teddy bear. He helped hundreds of men and women recover from drug and alcohol addictions. MikeyO was loved and respected in the professional and recovery community.
Survivors include one brother; Kevin O’Neill and his wife Eileen of Allentown, NJ. Nieces and nephews; Riley O’Neill of New Egypt, NJ, Molly O’Neill of Montclair, NJ and Casey O’Neill of Allentown, NJ. He is also survived by two cousins; Maureen Finley of Florida and Donna Jarosak, from Brooklyn, NY.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2020 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm with funeral service at 8:15pm. All will be held at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Interment will take place privately at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Allentown, NJ.
