Nancy Anne Myers, age 77, of Bridgewater, NJ passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Sunrise of Bridgewater, her home for the past year and a half. There she received exceptional care, support, and a sense of family. Additionally, she was supported by the compassionate staff of NightingaleNJ. Under the supervision of Christopher Kellogg, she was provided strong advocacy, guidance, and friendship.
Nancy was born on November 24, 1946 in Summit, NJ. The daughter of the late Walter and Estelle Mitsch Bittman, she spent her childhood in New Providence, NJ. She spent her adult years in residing in Califon and Lebanon, NJ.
A graduate of Montclair University where she majored in English and Special Education, Nancy enjoyed a wonderful tenure as a Special Education teacher at Dunellen, NJ High School where she taught until her retirement in 1989.
Nancy was a life-long learner, and she had a brilliant mind. She was a fabulous listener who always had time for others. She went on to further her education by obtaining two master’s degrees. She was a voracious reader and she loved to travel. She often visited with friends in Florida and Las Vegas, and she thoroughly enjoyed her trips to Denmark, China, Japan, and Paris. She loved to write poetry and was so proud to have several pieces published. As a young adult she was an accomplished skier. She was a member of the Ski Patrol at Hunter Mountain in New York State for nineteen years.
Friendships were always nurtured. Nancy was humble and kind. She cared about everyone, and she sought nothing in return She loved to entertain, often bring people together. She was an outstanding cook and baker. She was delighted to be published in Food & Wine Magazine. Her greatest enjoyments were spending time with people, attending the theater, and eating out…Her best days ever were doing all three in New York City.
Nancy was a member of the Dunellen Education Association, the New Jersey Education Association, and the National Education Association. She was also a member of the Fairmount Presbyterian Church Family. She was a deacon for many years, and she supported all the Church functions. She helped plan the Church’s first Women’s Tea, for which she was the head chef. Nancy was always there to assist others in need. A more recent membership of which Nancy was very proud was that of the Eastern Star Stewart Chapter.
Nancy is survived by her best friend Trudi Peters Goral of New Jersey, her dear Aunt, Shirley Bittman of Norh Carolina, a sister Linda Bittman Utteridge of Nebraska, two cousins, Laura Bittman Chek of North Carolina, and Kenneth Bittman of Philadelphia, three 2nd cousins once removed, Christina, Sarah, and Brian and two 2nd cousins twice removed, Serafina and Angelo. She adored her family.
Those who got to know Nancy truly touched her heart and they were very special to her.
