Norman James Merrill, age 67, of Palmer Twp., PA passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at St. Luke’s University Hospital – Bethlehem in Bethlehem, PA.
He was born on May 31, 1955 in Yonkers, NY. He had resided in Palmer Twp. since 2007 and was a former resident of Glen Gardner, NJ and Pearl River, NY.
He was the son of the late Charles Everitt and Elizabeth Williams Merrill.
Norman was the husband of Susan C. Hoffman Merrill, celebrating 13 years of marriage.
He was a graduate of Pearl River High School.
Norman worked for the State of New Jersey as a Supervisor of Food Service until his retirement. Earlier, he worked for Hagedorn Psychiatric Hospital in Glen Gardner and was transferred to Ann Klein Forensic Center in West Trenton, NJ.
Norman loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed going for walks on trails. He enjoyed going for long drives while listening to XM Radio. He also loved being outside doing anything to enjoy a beautiful day. He loved to cook and was always trying new recipes. He was also an avid history buff and had a special interest in world wars. He was a big animal lover and dearly missed his beloved Shih Tzu, Ozzy, who passed years ago.
Survivors in addition to his loving wife include three step-children; Prudence Hoffman of Phillipsburg, NJ, Pauline Dickey and her husband Russell Dickey Jr. of Phillipsburg, NJ and Lester Dennis of Easton, PA. Four step-grandchildren; Gabrielle Dickey, Owen Burd, Angeleana Dickey and Skylar Burd. He is also survived by his mother-in-law; Agnes Brown of Hampton, NJ.
Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 from 10am – 12pm with funeral service at 12pm. All at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Interment will follow at Lower Valley Cemetery in Califon, NJ.
