Richard ‘Rick’ P. Galando Sr., age 61, of Phillipsburg, NJ passed away on Monday, February 24, 2020 at home.
He was born on October 8, 1958 in Raritan Twp., NJ. He resided in Phillipsburg, NJ since 1987, moving from Lebanon, NJ.
He was the son of the late Peter and Kathryn Meshach Galando.
Rick was the husband of June Y. Walls Galando. The couple was married on July 21, 1979.
He spent his career as a Truck Driver. He worked for several companies including Flemington Block, Apgar Brothers in South Bound Brook, NJ, SMP Inc. in Phillipsburg, NJ and Bass Transportation in Easton, PA. He was known as ‘Country Boy’ on the radio during his trucking days.
Memberships include Round Valley United Methodist Church in Lebanon, NJ where Rick and June were married in 1979.
Rick was an avid racing fan. His favorite drivers were Daryl Waltrip and Tony Stewart. He was also a fan of the Minnesota Vikings football team. Years ago, he enjoyed bowling and hunting. His favorite TV show was The Andy Griffith Show and his favorite movies were Urban Cowboy and any of the Rocky movies. Most of all, Rick was a proud ‘Pappy’ to his grandson, Mason.
Survivors in addition to his loving and devoted wife include his two children; Rhiannon Piperata and her husband Tim of Phillipsburg, NJ and Richard ‘Ricky’ P. Galando Jr. of Phillipsburg, NJ. One grandson; Mason James Galando. Four siblings; Shirley Cannella of Hampton, NJ, Lorraine Souza and her husband Bill of Anchorage, AK, Betty Keleman of Hillsborough, NJ and Marie Nansen and her husband Barry of Hillsborough, NJ. His sister-in-law; Peg Galando of New Alexandria, PA. Two brother-in-laws; Jim Walls and his wife Annie of High Bridge, NJ and Nolan Walls of Marshall’s Creek, PA. Many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law; Mary Walls of Lebanon, NJ.
Predeceased by one brother; David Galando who passed away in 2008 and his father-in-law; James Walls, who passed away in 2009.
Calling hours will take place on Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Funeral service will be Monday, March 2, 2020 at 11am at Round Valley United Methodist Church in Lebanon, NJ. Interment at Mountain View Cemetery in Cokesbury, NJ.
