Robert Lester Hinman, age 92, of Milford, NJ passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at home.
He was born on May 14, 1928 in Elizabeth, NJ. He resided in Union, NJ for many years before moving to Mountainside, NJ where he built his own home from top to bottom. Years later he resided with his son, and more recently with his daughter in Milford.
He was the son of the late Judson Lester and Elizabeth Datesman Hinman.
His beloved wife, Freda E. Staib Hinman, passed away in 2016 after 66 years of marriage.
For 30 years, Robert worked repairing photography equipment. Later he worked for the Union Board of Education where he was a Superintendent until his retirement in 1991.
Robert was a very active past member of Mountainside Gospel Chapel in Mountainside, NJ where he was also a Deacon. Robert was truly inspired by his family and God.
He enjoyed fishing and bird watching. He loved spending time on his daughter’s farm and being with family. Years ago, he enjoyed archery and at the age of 16 he won the AA Men’s Championship in NJ.
Survivors include his children, who he always believed were his biggest accomplishment in life; Barry Hinman and his wife Ann of Milford, NJ, Karen Swift of Milford, NJ and Carol Inniss and her husband Robert Inniss Sr. Of Windham, ME. Five grandsons; Luke Swift, Jesse Hinman, Lee Hinman and his wife Darya, Cody Swift and his wife Emily and Robert Inniss Jr. One great-grandson; Benjamin Lester Swift. He is also survived by two siblings; Nancy Carley of Tinton Falls, NJ and Wayne Hinman and his wife Barbara of Georgetown, SC.
Predeceased in addition to his loving wife by one son; Daniel Hinman who passed away in 2018.
Calling hours will be Friday, October 30, 2020 from 10am to 12pm with funeral service at 12pm. All will be at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Interment at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Milford, NJ.
