Robert Joseph Melick Sr.

Robert Joseph Melick Sr., age 87, of Oldwick, New Jersey died surrounded by his family on February 9th 2022. 

Born June 28th 1934, Robert was a life-long resident of Oldwick, NJ.  Bob lived on his family farm with parents James (d.1962) and Margaret (d. 1997). Robert, his father James, and Don farmed together on Melick Farms (established 1925) until 1962. 

Following his active farming career Robert began work for the NJ Power and Light Co. where he was a mechanic.  He then advanced to Heavy Equipment Operator, where he remained until his retirement in 1997.  Bob remained active throughout his retirement farming part time - brush hogging, caring for cows and baling hay.  In the early years Bob and Audrey traveled the Mid-West States.  A true family man, he participated in activities with all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren, where he shared his love for NASCAR racing with his children and grandchildren, his passion lives on with them.

The true Patriarch of his family, Bob was survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Audrey Eileen Shannon residing in Oldwick NJ.  His sons, Robert Joseph Melick Jr. and wife Doris Jean Chamberlain Melick (Alpha, NJ) and William Shannon Melick and his wife Rachel Lauren Brendler Melick (Lebanon Township, NJ).  His Grandchildren Robert Shannon Melick (Glen Gardner, NJ), Stephen Joseph Melick and wife Alexis Marie Perch Melick (Alpha, NJ), Nicholas James Melick (Bethlehem, PA), Ashlee Nicole Melick (Alpha, NJ), Dylan James Melick (Lebanon Township, NJ), and Jesse William Melick (Lebanon Township, NJ).  His Great-Grandchildren Austin, Savannah, Raelynn, Cora, and Kiera. As well as nieces and nephews Betsy, Warren, Robert, Sharon and Sue.    

He is preceded in death by his first-born son, James Forrest Melick (d. 2004). He is also predeceased by his siblings, Doris (d. 2018) and his brother Don (d. 1992). 

The services will be held on Tuesday February 15th at Zion Lutheran Church, 56 Old Turnpike Rd, Oldwick, NJ.  Visitation will take place from 10am – 11am, with  funeral service at 11am.  Please note, masks will be required at the Church.  Burial will directly follow at Old Germantown Cemetery in Oldwick, NJ.  Celebration of Life luncheon will be held after the burial at the Christian Education Building, 18 Miller Ave, Oldwick, NJ 08858.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that donations be made to your charity of choice.
