Roberto Rivero

Roberto Rivero, age 98, long-time resident of North Bergen, NJ, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023 at the Hunterdon Care Center in Raritan Twp., NJ.

He was born on December 7, 1924 in Cienfuegos, Cuba.  He immigrated to the United States with his beloved wife and daughters in 1967 and settled in West New York, NJ.  He resided in North Bergen, NJ for many years before moving to the Hunterdon Care Center in 2022.

He was the son of the late Luis and Adriana Gomez Rivero.

Roberto was the husband of Esther M. Perez Rivero, celebrating 68 years of marriage this last December.

He was a Butcher for Berkowitz & Sons in Bronx, NY until his retirement in 1994.

He was known as ‘El Comandante’, he loved to garden, watch baseball, and will always be remembered for falling asleep outside laying in the sun.  Roberto was a big practical jokester and loved pranking people. 

Survivors in addition to his loving wife include two daughters; Adriana Regojo of Wyckoff, NJ and Esther Ferguson and her husband Andrew of Lebanon, NJ.  Three grandchildren; Erick Regojo and his fiancé Rachel Ambrogio of Saddle Brook, NJ, Catriona Ferguson of Lebanon, NJ and Mairi Ferguson of Lebanon, NJ.  Three siblings; Eva Rodriguez and her husband Jose of FL, Juan C. Rivero and his wife Linda of Freehold, NJ and Jose L. Rivero and his wife Debbie of Middletown, NJ.  He is also survived by his brother-in-law; Filo Torres of West New York, NJ.  Many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by Nine siblings; Amado, Luis, Jose ’Cheo’, Evelio, Ana ‘Nana’, Emelina ‘Nini’, Juana, Adriana and Maria. 

Committal service will take place on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 10:30am at Flower Hill Cemetery and Mausoleum, 5433 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Bergen, NJ 07047.
