Rosamund Joy Caliendo, age 82, of Hampton, NJ passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Mohawk Meadows Nursing Facility in Lafayette, NJ.
She was born on June 20, 1942 in Newark, NJ. Joy spent her childhood in Irvington, NJ. She resided in Hampton, NJ for 47 years.
She was the daughter of the late Edward Charles and Mary Fairscey Lockwood.
She was the wife of Daniel J. Caliendo, celebrating 60 years of marriage on July 18th of this year.
Joy’s entire career was spent in serving others and her community. She taught at St. Lucy’s Catholic Elementary School in East Newark, NJ. She also worked as a teachers aide and social worker for Norwescap at Norton Church in Clinton, NJ. Joy also was a volunteer coordinator for the AIDS Network in Hunterdon County, a role that she was most proud of where she received a distinguished honor award in 1998.
Joy enjoyed drawing, gardening, reading and playing the piano. She loved nature and loved being outdoors. She especially loved butterflies. Joy always stood by her beliefs and was aptly named, as she brought a smile to most people that she met. Joy will always be remembered for having a heart of gold.
Survivors in addition to her loving husband include one son; Damian Caliendo of Clinton, NJ and two granddaughters; Kathleen M. Caliendo and Sarah M. Wolverton. She is also survived by her son-in-law; John Wolverton of Phillipsburg, NJ and two godchildren; Stephen Lefkowitz and Suzanne Martin.
Joy was predeceased by her daughter Rachel M. Wolverton who passed away in 2014. Also, many beloved cousins including Betty Ann Lefkowitz, Ruth Wolz and Bartholomew McKee.
Calling hours will take place on Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 5-9pm at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Funeral Mass will be Friday, August 16, 2024 at 12pm at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 398 County Road 513, Califon, NJ. Interment will be private.
Memorials can be made in Joy’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
