Roxanne (Jones) Overton, age 69, of High Bridge, NJ passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 in her home in High Bridge.
She was born on August 16, 1951 in Plainfield, NJ, the youngest of four children of the late Scotch Plains police lieutenant Robert W. and Helene (Gurginski) Jones. She was named by her brothers, Robert and William, after model and actress Roxanne Rosedale, a host on Beat the Clock.
Roxanne grew up in Scotch Plains, NJ, meeting and maintaining lifelong friends at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, and later Goucher College in Baltimore, MD, and Mills College in Oakland, CA, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in American Studies. She was always passionate about American history, and in working with a genealogist in recent years, was able to trace her family’s lineage to the American Revolution.
She was a retired computer programmer for Verizon Wireless, and also worked for UPS and Wakefern. She and her late husband of 24 years, Kirby George Overton, were former owners of the Golf Store of Flemington in Flemington, NJ. Upon her retirement, Roxanne volunteered for the Open Cupboard Food Pantry in Clinton, NJ; Spruce Run Lutheran Church Family Promise; and Meals on Wheels in Hunterdon. She played in the handbell choir at Spruce Run Lutheran Church, served on the Board of No Dominion Theatre Co., and was a member of a book club in High Bridge with her dear friends and neighbors. She was a patron of arts and culture, and loved the outdoors. She was also an avid traveler; favorite trips included Santorini, Australia, Venice, the Grand Canyon, San Diego, the Outer Banks, and Lake Winnipesaukee.
Roxanne is survived by her brother Robert W. Jones, III and his wife Carol Crawford-Jones; daughters Kaitlin Overton and her husband Jeremy Brauner, and Allison and her husband Daniel Salvatori; sister-in-law Joanne Overton; step-sons Keith Overton and his wife Liz Lieb Overton, and Kirk Overton and his wife Heidi Yutzler-Overton; step grandchildren Joanna, Cole, Adam, and Melia; nephews Peter and Steven Jones, great-nephew Louis, and great-nieces Hannah and Giulietta.
