Shirley Wack

Shirley L. Wack, longtime resident of High Bridge, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Country Arch Care Center in Pittstown, NJ.  She was 89 years old.

Born on February 4, 1937, in Lebanon, New Jersey, Shirley was the daughter of the late Elmer Haver and Grace Alpaugh Haver. 

She devoted many years to her work as a clerk at the Post Office in Clinton, NJ before her retirement. Early in her career, she worked at the Mattress Factory in Lebanon, NJ.  

Shirley shared 45 loving years of marriage with her devoted husband, David B. Wack, whom she married in 1981. 

She is lovingly survived by her children: David Kuhne (Sherry) of Phillipsburg, New Jersey and Debbie Kuhne, and her stepchildren, Kim Wack and Kenny Wack. She was predeceased by her son, Dale Kuhne, and her stepson, Steven Wack. Shirley also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, many cherished nieces and nephews, and numerous extended family members and friends. 

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Robert Hoffman as well as her first husband Tom Kuhne.  

A woman of deep faith and extraordinary musical talent, Shirley was an accomplished organist who began playing at just four years old. Throughout her life, she served as an organist for several churches, including High Bridge Reformed Church, Lebanon Methodist Church, and Annandale Reformed Church. She also served as the Eastern Star organist and was a dedicated member of the Order of the Eastern Star Stewart Chapter for 45 years. Shirley proudly held the position of District Deputy & Grand Organist & was a Grand Representative to Wyoming, traveling throughout New Jersey in service to the organization she loved.

Above all else, Shirley treasured her family. She especially adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and found great joy in sending thoughtful cards and remembering every special occasion. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for those around her will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Funeral service with Eastern Star service will take place on Tuesday July 28, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at High Bridge Reformed Church, 23 Church Street, High Bridge, New Jersey.  

Arrangements are under the direction of Naughright-Scarponi Funeral Home in High Bridge, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Order of the Eastern Star Residents Member Fund, 111 Finderne Avenue, Bridgewater, NJ 08807, honoring Shirley’s lifelong dedication to the organization and its charitable mission.

Shirley’s beautiful spirit, steadfast faith, and lifelong gift of music will be remembered always.
